The Tuscaloosa Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and the West Alabama Rural Planning Organization (RPO) will hold the following public meetings for the Draft West Alabama Coordinated Public Transit Plan 2017:

4. Hale County - July 18, 2017, 5:00 p.m. - Moundville Library, 279 Market Street, Moundville, AL
5. Lamar County - July 20, 2017, 6:00 p.m. - Lamar County Commission Chamber, 44690 Highway 17, Vernon, AL
6. Pickens County - July 27, 2017, 9:00 a.m. - Pickens County Commission Chamber, 20 Phoenix Avenue, Carrollton, AL
7. Tuscaloosa County - July 12, 2017, 9:00 a.m. - Tuscaloosa Intermodal Center, 601 23rd Avenue, Tuscaloosa, AL

The public meetings will include a formal review of the plan by the MPO and RPO staff as well as a question and answer session. Copies of the plan will be available at the meeting. Meeting attendees will also be given an opportunity to complete comment forms or to provide tape-recorded comments.

The plan will be available at the West Alabama Regional Commission (WARC), 4200 Highway 69 North, Northport, for public review from May 8 through July 28, 2017. The plan is also available on the internet at ( and by mail (205-333-2990, extension 213). All comments must be received prior to July 28, 2017.

The plan records coordination opportunities for publicly funded transit agencies in west Alabama. The plan provides a review of the current transit systems and includes improvement strategies, project lists, and maps. In order to be eligible to receive certain Federal Transit Administration (FTA) grants, transit agencies must participate in the plan development. The affected grants include Section 5310 - Elderly and Disabled Program, Section 5316 - Job Access and Reverse Commute Program, and Section 5317 - New Freedom Program.

The MPO is scheduled to adopt the draft plan at their August 28, 2017 meeting and the RPO is scheduled to adopt it at their August 4, 2017 meeting. Prior to adopting the plan, the MPO and RPO will review all comments from the public and make changes to the plan if warranted. If major revisions are required the public will be given another opportunity to inspect the plan.
